Recovery and Replacement Service from Covenco DR
Stolen or damaged laptop? With an Online Backup contract with Covenco, we will deliver a fully restored Laptop of your choice from a pre-allocated stock within 4 hours direct to the end user, complete with your system image and the user’s entire data - as of the last backup. We will also repair the damaged Laptop, if economical to do so and return it your stock.
How does Laptop backup work? A software agent is ‘pushed’ or downloaded to every laptop and silently installed while the user is connected to your network or the Internet. For larger organisations, the backup policy will have already been decided by IT Management and ‘exclusions’ will be defined; only authorised users may be granted access to the Management Control Console to define their own backup priorities.
Dependent on your data volumes, the first backup may take a while. If users have exceptional volumes of data, then we can take the first backup on a secure USB device.
Thereafter, to ensure there is no perceptible impact to your network or the user’s internet connection, the actual volume of transmitted data is reduced to a miniscule level. The software agent only backs up new and changed data at a block level, compresses each block and initiates a secure data de-duplication process that ensures that only a single instance of any data block is transmitted to the Covenco DR centres. That de-duplication process is constantly repeated looking at all the data from your organisation and removing identical blocks.
During transmission your data is always secure; AES encryption and transport occurs at the sub-file level ensuring that file names and metadata are always protected.
How does the recovery work? Authorised users can recover their own files through the browser based console; it’s as simple as entering your unique Key number and clicking on the files you wish to recover.
Management Control Console
The Control Console allows you to define policies for your users and manage all the features of the technology. This will remove the risks associated with relying on users’ cooperation to comply with corporate usage policies.
Using the Management Control Console you can define policies for data backup, recovery, port access control, remote data deletion and device tracking. Devices can be managed individually or by group or user function. You may decide to delegate certain control functions to department heads such as HR or Sales.
Compliance reports: If you function within a heavily regulated industry, you can generate reports to show the effectiveness of your compliance policies.
At Rest AES Encryption = absolute security
AES Encryption is a Military grade state-of-the-art security for files at rest on the hard drive. So finally - you can now assure the business that no unauthorized person can ever get access to your Laptop data.
Automatic protection: Automatic encryption of files selected for data backup.
Non intrusive protection: The small software footprint ensures that the backup runs transparently in the background with no visible impact on the performance of the Laptop.
Security Compliance Standards: Supports the NIST FIPS 140-2 standard with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7–helping you meet regulatory compliance requirements. The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued the FIPS 140 Publication Series to coordinate the requirements and standards for cryptography modules that include both hardware and software components. Federal agencies and departments can validate that the module in use is covered by an existing FIPS 140-1 or FIPS 140-2 certificate that specifies the exact module name, hardware, software, firmware, and/or applet version numbers. The cryptographic modules are produced by the private sector or open source communities for use by the U.S. government and other regulated industries (such as financial and health-care institutions) that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information. A commercial cryptographic module is also commonly referred to as a Hardware Security Module.
Port & Drive Access Control
The Policy Control Console enables you to centrally manage the read/ write access or total lockdown of any port or drive on individual Laptops or by groups. This includes USB Drives, CDs & DVDs, Serial and Parallel Ports, Bluetooth Devices, Floppy & Tape Drives, Firewire, iSCSI Devices
The scope and value of this facility has been defined over time by IT & Security Managers who have quantified the risks associated with Laptop users attaching devices that contain potentially damaging and harmful content.
Remote Data Deletion
The Central Policy Control Console enables you to define the automatic or time scheduled deletion of data for any set of circumstances.
Time-based triggers: Should a device be lost or stolen, a policy of auto deletion will take effect after a defined period, even if the device does not connect to the internet. Similarly, you can define a timeframes for data to be shredded automatically if a device does NOT connect to your network. You can set different time periods for different groups of users.
Immediate Deletion: You can effect an immediate deletion of files when a device is next connected to your network. This facility is enormously valuable in cases of employee misconduct, when the existence of offensive material is detected, or when an employee is dismissed and is still in possession of the company’s Laptop.
Selective Deletion: Individual files or folders can be automatically deleted from selected Laptops or groups. This facility is used by organisations to ensure that out-dated or incorrect information is removed from circulation.
